Morad Bali, Ph.D., is Postdoctoral Associate in Macroeconomics at Duke University (USA), and Research Associate at The Center for Research on International Security and European Cooperation (France). He is also a Research Associate at the IRNC (Institute for Research on Non-Violent Conflict Resolution).
Morad received his joint Ph.D. in Economics and Statistics-Econometrics (Grenoble Alpes University & Saint-Petersburg State University of Economics) in 2021. He developed a vivid interest for the study of economic coercion following the Ukrainian crisis and the 2014 sanctions against Russia.
Morad began to work on economic sanctions during his last year of bachelor’s degree (2015). His passion for this topic brought him to live slightly more than two years in Russia, which led him to introduce an innovative methodology allowing researchers to create economic sanction indices to simulate economic coercion in econometric models.
